How to play 2048
- Slide every tile with one key — the whole board moves at once.
- When two tiles with the same number touch, they merge and double.
- A new tile appears after every slide, so plan one move ahead.
- Join your way up — 128, 256, 512 — until you make the 2048 tile. Then keep going if you dare.
Goal: create the 2048 tile. Your unfinished board and best score are saved in the same browser when storage is available. The in-game New Game button starts a fresh board while keeping the best score.
About 2048
A compact number puzzle where every slide shifts the whole board and matching tiles combine. Easy to learn, quietly brutal to master — the reason it's a classic.
Quick tips
First move
Pick one corner and stick to it. Build your biggest tile there and never move away from it on purpose.
Keep a ladder
Arrange tiles in descending order along an edge so merges cascade instead of clogging the board.
Make space
If the board has fewer than four empty cells, stop chasing points and clear room before the next merge.
